Off the Wagon - Lindsey

Well I broke down and bought some yarn while on vacation to our lovely former stomping ground, Humboldt County. I even bought some yarn in Mendocino County!

Alas... you know you want to see my goods! Let me introduce you...

I wanted to get some really nice souvenir yarn that was characteristic of Northern California, and this was the excuse I used when I discovered Nancy Finn's Chasing Rainbow colorways in Boll Weaver in Eureka. Ms. Finn hails from Willits, CA so I thought I should get some of her sock yarn and support the local economy... These two skeins (I got four total) are called Tartan and Sangria. Aren't they beautiful? They remind me of Mountain Colors. It's a two-ply wool, not sure what kind...

My next purchase was somewhat of a necessity. While procrastinating studying pediatric nursing info at the end of summer school, I decided to teach myself how to do Entrelac. I had two lovely balls of Noro Kureyon in an aqua-brown colorway in my stash that were a Christmas gift, so I knitted them up before even getting on the airplane. I found two more balls of the same colorway in Fabric Temptations of Arcata and bought them to finish up this scarf. I like Entrelac, especially with Noro... The important thing here is that I have a beautiful Noro scarf for about $20 bucks! Even though I'm not supposed to be buying yarn, you have to admit that's a good deal. The colors of the Noro are so much more vibrant and unusual in real-life... I haven't figured out how to take a good picture of yarn yet... Maybe go outside and do it?

Why I knitted a scarf in July, we shall never know?!

I'll tell you all about my Mendocino purchase and the resulting project in the next post... stay tuned! I'll be including some finished object pics!

I did take care of some old unfinished business on vacation... I finished these purple & orange Cherry Tree Hill socks on the drive up. Here's my socks on vacation...

And here's me weaving in the ends (gasp!) on the beach in Petrolia... Doesn't that look like a movie backdrop???

The latest thing I've knitted up for my layette for my unconceived child is a sweetie hat from the book One Skein. This is a angora/merino blend by Cascade-- I believe the yarn is called Cloud 9. Isn't the orange wonderfully vibrant? I thought this would be a nice hat to stick on my baby just in case she's not born with orange hair. This was another save-me-from-summer-school project.

I think One Skein is a wonderful book-- I know you just bought AlterKnits by Leigh Radford-- have you taken a look at this one? I've checked it out from the library twice now.

Anything inspire you from the newest Interweave Knits? I love Bianca's Jacket and Sienna Cardigan. I love cardigan sweaters... They go so well with nightgowns and the softest ancient t-shirts, other wardrobe staples of mine. I was so inspired by Bianca's jacket that I frogged my Sleek Ribs tank-top from IK Summer 2005 (which was at a standstill) to free up the yarn for this project. I was knitting it up in Berroco Glace in a pale pink. This pattern would have made my third knitted tank top which I thought was one too many, despite living in a relatively-shadeless cow pasture of South Carolina.

How much 1 x 1 rib can a girl take? About seven inches.

I look forward to casting-on for Bianca's Jacket whenever I get some things off my needles and crossed off my list. I tell you, it felt quite liberating to rip back this tank-top that has been sitting stagnant in a basket for a year.

Hello - Mary

Hello, this is Mary, joining your conversation! Now I need to get myself in gear with my knitting -- I find it harder to be motivated to knit in the summer, mostly because I'm spending lots of time gardening and playing outside. But wintertime in Lansing is prime knitting time, so I'll soon be back on the couch with my knitting needles!
