City of Boxes - Dawn

CITY OF BOXES

So we are moved into our "new to us" condo and we have begun the "why the hell did we move THIS" process. Meanwhile I have still managed to knit. Believe it or not in the mist of all the other things I should be doing I've been knitting and it has helped me to stay somewhat sane. This is a picturer of my stash and where it lives while I figure out where it will go in the new condo. I'm planning a location of relative prominence (rightly so) but where.

Here are some other condo pics.

and

okay, some knitting

This is the Phyllotaxis Scarf from Knitting Nature (I love that book). I'm knitting it for my Dad who will probably not wear it but put in a safe location to save for ... who knows. I think he'll like it though. It is knitted of baby alpaca from a farm in Ohio.

Dad, if you wear it, it will keep you really really warm and I know those Ohio winters are cold cold cold.

Next...

Seaside Mitts for a former student of mine at Los Angeles City College where the winters are decidedly less cold. This was my first project using beads. It was suprisingly easy. The pattern is, I think, from Mag Knits, but I can't say that is for certain. I altered the pattern a bit and left the separation of fingers off 1) since I'm lazy and 2) since no fingers seems to be all the rage.

and

for Dana, in replacement of the Sunrise Circle Jacket that I couldn't seem to get right. I frogged the jacket and knitted up a Capelet from "Wrap Style" which I hope she likes. Generally, I'm getting good reactions from people I show it to, though some pause and say, "you made a cape?" Anyhow, here it is. I still have to block it out and I'm not quite sure how to go about it. Also I just bought the buttons yesterday and will need to sew them on. Will people in Ann Arbor think the cape is cool or will they say, "a cape?" What will my sister think. The jury is still out.

Anther crazy thing that has happened for Jeff and I besides buying property in Southern California is that our dog started to wake us up 3 and 4 times a night wanting to go out. I though it was just the craziness of our lives catching up with us, but we finally took her to the vet last week and found out that she had a stone in her bladder. Poor thing, she has been dealing with a big stone rolling around in her bladder for probably the last 6 months. So on Tuesday our pooch had surgery and the lemon drop sized stone was removed. She is definitely feeling better and we are definitely getting more sleep.

See here, Bette has stitches. She also has to wear a cone around her head to keep her from pulling the stitches out, but I won't embarass her too much by posting that pic.

Chez Stash- Lindsey

My stash found a new home... a significant upgrade. Last Friday, when I was having lunch in downtown Elloree at our local (only) Thai restaurant, I decided to venture across the street and check out my favorite antique store. The bad news is that I discovered that they were going out of business. The good news is that I got this old timey cupboard-- a perfect fit for my stash-- for a deep discount.

My stash moved from this:

To this:

Cleaning and filling my new cupboard was all I did on Wednesday night, after finishing a tremendous amount of Psych Nursing paperwork... On Thursday I went to the South Carolina Student Nurses' Association Convention down in Charleston. I knitted these precious baby booties for the silent auction. Also I represented our school in the NCLEX Jeopardy competition and my team took the trophy!!! WOO HOO! Ok, there wasn't really a trophy... but it was a good time.

As for what's knitting these days... I haven't been too ambitious. I've begun knitting socks with some of my Nancy Finn yarn, and I keep on hand to knit a few rounds whenever I get a chance.

It's getting that time of the year, so I need to pick up the pace. I would love to have some new sweaters for this fall/winter. At the top of my list is the Sunrise Circle Jacket and this sweater at Glampyre Knits which there is currently no available pattern for.

How bout y'all?

Besides Knitting...

Well my knitting has been hodge-podge and not very well-documented here lately. I'm finishing up some projects for my little pal Rowan who just celebrated his first birthday. These are things I started when he was still in utero! I knitted a big shawl for my sister out of my first handspun yarn. She took it up to NYC before I could get a a picture of it in action... Soooo, here's some non-knitting content for you.

The horses are enjoying eating the end of the summer garden. We haven't done anything so far for a fall garden but I'm aiming to put some broccoli, collards, and some salad greens in the ground at the very least, even if I have to buy expensive "starts" in order to get it done.

Here's our Cafe Bustelo herb garden. I don't know if it will do anything but I love these coffee cans. I couldn't resist...

I've been such a spoiled brat here lately. I don't know what it is, and I'm sure I don't deserve it-but I'm not going to complain either! Let me show you what I'm talking about.

My older sister brought me back this lovely & amazing vase from her recent trip to Romania (as well as surprises from her recent trips to Hong Kong and NYC...) Here is summer's last bouquet of zinnias.

Also when I was driving down the road the other day, I stopped at this old house where these people were cleaning, and I asked them if they were getting rid of their old metal porch furniture-- And they GAVE it to me! The pieces are in need of a little TLC but they match perfectly with my purple glider, so I have a little project cut out for me (and my father-in-law.)

Aren't they beauties? They bounce.

Here's my purple glider in case you forgot... Also, this provides a bit of perspective on the chairs, don't you think? I love porch furniture so much that I keep in indoors.

The big news regarding new furniture does have a knitting-related aspect to it... But I'm not revealing my secret purchase until I can post a picture. So you'll just have to stay put there on the edge of your seat.
