Work Space

So after two years of living in our new condo (not so new anymore) we've finally managed to set up a little workspace for me. I'm taking over the spare room for my study and fiber work. Within the first few weeks of living here we decided to do away with the huge sliding door closet in the spare room and create a little desk or built in shelf area. Well the desk won out for now and perhaps if we stay in LA it will turn into something else entirely. See the photo. I've got my computer and little drawer until set up and hoping this motivates me to work work work. I might be in trouble though because I'm also putting yarn and fiber all around me so I'm not sure if this will motivate me to study or if it will just lead me to dreaming about knitting and spinning projects.

At the top of the picture you can see a little piece of blue tape. That is where I'm hoping to add some book shelves and / or a cabinet to stash things. I won't give you a picture of the rest of the room because its a total wreck, but off to the right side of the desk area I have added a peg board for hanging...

you guest it, YARN! LOL! I suppose other things could be hung up here as well, but I don't forsee that happening anytime soon. The yarn in the picture is my own handspun. I haven't decided what to knit with it yet, but I have my eye on a Green Mountain Spinnery sweater that appeared in the Knitter's Stash. I'll need one more color and probably lots more yards, but it is always fun to imagine the possiblities.

Road Trip 2008

Driving through the Tetons with the top down. This is the life.

Back in the Humboldt Nation

This was the 40th annual Kinectic Sculpture Race in the Humboldt Nation. It was like a breath of fresh air. We checked out all the sculptures and rambled through the farmers market. Oh! how I miss this. This is the first time Jeff and I have been back to Humboldt since our wedding and I was on the verge of tears minute by minute. I'm sure Jeff probably was too, but maybe not the tear thing. Have a look at these sculptures. They are my favorites from this year.

SAFF Classes

Forgot to mention that I'm enrolled in three classes this SAFF: The Heel Workshop with Charlene Schurch, The Perennial Indigo Vat, and Hand Painted Rovings. I want to focus on learning more and shopping less this SAFF... We'll see...

Pink Socks, anyone?

I've noticed a trend in my sock yarn purchasing lately... Apparently, I didn't think I had enough pink socks in the wardrobe. From left to right: Regia Crazy Colors, Three Waters Farm Lotus colorway, Trekking XXL 80, and Dream in Color Smooshy Petal Shower. Ok, I"ll admit I accidentally bought the Regia Crazy Colors on eBay during a weak moment (since our pinky swear not to buy anymore yarn until SAFF 2008 for me and Fab Fiber Fest for you.) I saw a pair knitted up in this yarn on Ravelry and simply had to have it!

Otherwise, I've been a perfect saint, knitting from the stash pretty heavily.

So what's spinning?

I finished a second skein of the brown and white Romney. It's being washed at this moment. Here's a pic of it right off the niddy noddy. A bit over plied (and overspun, I'm sure.)

I have one totebag full of brown Romney picked locks to card and spin, and then it will be finished! Of course I need to spin a two-ply skein of the darker brown for the accents of the sweater I have imagined.

Guess what I dug up out of the depths? The Persimmon Tree Farm rovings in the Indian Corn colorway (purchased at SAFF 2006.) I'm hoping I bought enough for a BSJ. I took a quick break from the Romney. Such instant gratification to reach in a bag an spin away...

I haven't touched my Shetland fleece yet. This weekend, I'm getting a (free, yay!) top-loading washing machine solely to process fleeces. I'm dreaming of turning my potting shed into a "fiber studio," and it seems that D. is on board too!

Knitted several little person things from lone balls and other random bits out of the stash, but that will have to wait for my next post.

It's always nice

It's always nice to see your hand knit items actually being worn. It looks much better than I remember it too and what a pleasure that it.
